Hockey Mom Foundation Fundraiser

Ten years ago, the Hockey Mom Foundation was started by John Duke, a longtime Rocky River Youth Hockey coach, current practice coach of the Westlake High School Hockey Team, and new coach of the Cleveland Warriors Hockey Team. When John’s mom Ruth, a champion hockey mom to her sons, passed away from cancer, her generosity inspired John to start the HMF to honor her and several other hockey moms who shaped the lives of countless young men and women. An all volunteer organization, the HMF honors hockey moms everywhere by raising funds to making grants to non-profits focused on furthering cancer research, and the care of cancer patients.

The HMF is hosting its 9th annual Gator Open Golf Outing Fundraiser, this year in the Buffalo area (Coach Duke’s home town), on Friday, September 13th. For each 9 years of the golf outing fundraiser, Cleveland Hockey moms and dads have donated dozens of bottles of wine for the event’s wine pull. The wine pulls alone have raised approximately $5,500.

Will you please make a wine bottle(s) donation, and forward this to your friends, family, and hockey teams, and ask them for wine bottle donations? Wine bottles can be dropped off to 1515 Northview Road, Rocky River, side porch by 9/10/24.

To date, we have granted $125,000 to several deserving cancer causes.
Recipients include:

  • Cleveland Clinic Children’s Better Care From Home Initiative
  • Roswell Park Cancer Institute to support development and study of a brain cancer vaccine, and implementation of a pediatric cancer drug trial
  • Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute’s Patient Support Services
  • Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute’s Dr. Charis Eng for breast cancer research
  • Cleveland Clinic Gynecologic Oncology Research Program
  • John R. Oishei Children's Hospital Oncology/Hematology Unit
