Chris Kenney Named 2023-2024 Coach of the Year
We are thrilled to name Chris the Coach of the Year as his dedication and leadership were instrumental to the success of the Squirt 1 team this past season. He has coached the Squirt 1 team in the CSHL AA division the past two years, qualifying for the league playoffs both seasons. His team won the regular season crown in 2023-2024 with a final record of 11-3-0 and narrowly missed a playoff championship losing a hard fought battle to Elyria. This was the first RRYH team to win a regular season or playoff championship at the AA level since the 2015-2016 Peewee AA team. In addition to their success in the CSHL, his team was also runners-up at the Notre Dame tournament they attended.
Chris is quick to share the credit for the team's success with the entire team - players, parents, coaches, and managers. Chris fosters a positive environment where the players develop at a high rate, have fun, and learn valuable life lessons along the way. Chris is one of our many coaches who go above and beyond to ensure a positive experience for our kids, while helping them grow as young people.
About Chris:
Chris has been coaching at multiple levels for over 30+ years (ADM – High School). He was also a USA Hockey coaching instructor and past president of a local CSHL Hockey Association. Born and raised in the Cleveland area, he played youth hockey for Bay Hockey Association (Mites thru Midgets) and attended Bay High School winning the school’s first lower division Baron Cup. During college, he started coaching for Sylvania Maple Leafs/Northstars Squirts and Peewees in the Little Caesars travel league. When back in Cleveland, he was selected to coach Rocky River HS as an assistant in the mid 1990’s. Since joining RRYH two years ago, he has enjoyed coaching Simon on Squirt 1 both seasons. Coach Kenney is also fortunate enough to coach his older son, J.R. at Bay High School.
